Parish History
Saint Ignatius was founded in 1937 by Fr. Patrick Duffy, C.S.C. The parish, originally part of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, was to be named Holy Cross. The archbishop was in Rome when he became seriously ill. The sisters who cared for him told him that if he prayed to St. Ignatius of Antioch, he would recover. He did and promised to name the next parish in his diocese in honor of the saint. St. Ignatius was the next parish established.
The first Masses for the parish were celebrated at the old Wilke-Manor (Wilke-Clay) Funeral Home at 1811 South Congress Avenue. In 1939 Fr. Duffy moved to an old house in the 200 block of West Johanna Street which he used for church services until a new church was built which served 250 families. Read More »

Father Basil Moreau Proclaimed Blessed
Father Basil Moreau, CSC, founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross was proclaimed Blessed in Le Mans, France at the Mass and Rite of Beatification this past Saturday. Hundreds of Holy Cross priests, Brothers and Sisters from all the countries were present to witness this momentous occasion of his beatification, as well as Cardinals, Bishops, Priests Brothers and Sisters from other religious congregations and dioceses. Along with them were hundreds of people from those countries where Holy Cross serves. Our own bishop of Austin, Bishop Gregory Aymond, was also present.
This is truly a great occasion for the Congregation of Holy Cross and for the faith community of St. Ignatius, Martyr who have been served by Holy Cross since the beginning of this parish in 1937. Let us give thanks to God for Fr. Moreau, a servant of the Lord. May God bless this faith community with zeal for serving the people of God and putting our faith in Divine Providence as Fr. Moreau did. May his beatification motivate us in growing deeper in faith and love for God and to invite young men and women to serve as Holy Cross religious.
