Initiation Sacraments: Baptism

Adult RCIA

  • Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic Church?
  • Are you unbaptized but recognize a need for spirituality in your life?
  • Are you baptized Catholic or baptized into another religion but never received any formal religious education?
  • Are you married to a Catholic and attend Mass but just don't know what the next step is to become one of the Catholic faithful?
  • Are you yearning for something more in your life?

Perhaps the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is for you. Every year adults are welcomed into the Catholic Community through the RCIA. It is a learning and loving process in which conversion of the heart brings you to Jesus Christ. The RCIA assists adults in their journey to become knowledgeable and active members of the Catholic Faith Community.

During this personal faith journey we are involved with Scripture, Prayer, Catholic beliefs and practices, and more. This is all experienced in a community setting with a number of Catholic adults who serve as companions and sponsors.

The experience of the RCIA is to assist prospective Catholics in their journey to become an active member of the Catholic Community.

We begin the RCIA in September, with an opportunity for you to have an individual conversation with one of the Team Members.

We meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:15pm to 9:30pm, and attend Mass together on Sunday at 9:30am.

For more information call the Church Office at (512) 442-3602.

Sessions will be on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm from January 2004 through May 2004 with Confirmation after Easter.

Participants will need a recent copy of their Baptismal Certificate. We will be happy to answer questions either by phone or email!

For more information call the Church Office at (512) 442-3602.

Non-Baptized Children (over the age of five) and Non-Catholics

Children over the age of five who are not baptized or are baptized in another Christian faith tradition will be invited to participate in the R.C.I.A. Adapted for Children. This is a two year process of community building and catechesis in preparation for full initiation into the Catholic Church. In particular circumstances another religious education process, such as a religious education program or attendance at a Catholic School, can substitute for the first year of this process. Normally, parents will be expected to participate in this program with their children.

Infants

Parents who are seeking Baptism for their children are asking that their son/daughter be initiated into the Catholic Community and the local Church Community of St. Ignatius. The Church baptizes infants/children on the faith of the parents.

The ideal is that parents have a deep faith, which they actively live out in the experience of the Catholic Church Community. Children's faith is learned from their parents. To assist parents in living out the above ideal, the Church Community of St. Ignatius has adopted the following guidelines for Infant Baptisms. (We consider children from birth through the age of five to be infants.)
