Community Building and Empowerment

Community Building and Empowerment

A new ministry at St. Ignatius that will address issues faced by our church families.

Vote Today

VOTE TODAY! Today is the day we want everyone in our congregation to vote! Early voting ends Tuesday, and election day is May 10th. But lets not wait...polls are open today.

On April 20th, 800 Austin Interfaith leaders, including members of our congregation, held an Accountability Session with candidates for Austin City Council, ACC Board and AISD Board. This was the largest event of the election season, and candidates committed to action on the issues of workforce and living wages, education, affordable healthcare, police relations and immigration. Our congregations showed we have a voice, and we committed to getting out the vote in this election. We presented 5000 signatures in support of these issues.

Early voting ends Tuesday May 6th. Election Days is Saturday May 10th. Collectively our congregations have 50,000 members, but our voice will not be heard if we don't vote. One way to act on our values is to show that our congregations and our neighborhoods turnout to the polls.

Successful Accountability Session

The Community Building and Empowerment team along with the Parish Social Ministries Committee would like to say thank you to all you who attended last Sunday's Accountability Session. We felt so proud to be a part of St. Ignatius and see how many of you participated in the rousing session. Over 800 people were in attendance to hold our elected officals accountable to the issues that forth from all of our house meetings that were held in our parish and other parish's in the Austin area. We now have a place at the table to voice our concerns with City government. May we all never lose track of our focus on helping our brothers and sisters, and humbly turn ourselves and our work over to our Creator. May God bless us all and may justice roll down like water.

Community Building and Empowerment Team

The Community Building and Empowerment Team is a newly-formed ministry here at St. Ignatius. Currently the CBE team is in the process of talking with as many parish members as possible to discuss issues that face our church families. This is part of a four month campaign of conversations that will culminate in an agenda of issues we will bring back to the congregation and begin to work on as a parish.

We want you to have an opportunity to share the issues your family faces. So far we have heard concerns about high cost of health care, affordable housing and religious education. The meetings have been constructive and actually quite fun. But, we still want to talk with many more members.

The CBE team will have a sign-up table after the 5 p.m. mass on Saturday August 25th, and after the 7:30, 9 and 11 a.m. Masses on Sunday August 26th. Please stop by one of the tables to sign up and get more information about CBE!

House Meetings July 29

The St. Ignatius Community Building and Empowerment Team will conduct "house meetings" with interested parishioners at the Family Center on Sunday, July 29, following the 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses.

The "house meetings" are conversations with fellow parishioners that give us the opportunity to share and discuss the pressures our families face. Once we gather information on the issues, we can begin to work on action plans to make positive changes to help our families face these issues.

Please join us on July 29 to share your issues and take positive steps to impact the world around us.
