Challenges and Directions in Social Justice Through Education, Motivation and a Call to Action

June 30, 2007
9:00 AM to 4:45PM

Hosted by St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic Church
Funded through local funding from CCHD & CRS

The conference will focus and engage the participants on how to apply social justice in the parish and community. Bishop Aymond's keynote address will provide challenging and dynamic insights that link the words of Scripture to Catholic Social Teachings, and discuss their relevance in contemporary society.

Our feature presenter is Jeff Korgen, author of "My Lord & My God - Engaging Catholics in Social Ministry". He will speak on implementing social justice programs in parishs/congregations.

Breakout sessions will allow participants the opportunity to attend workshops on such topics as immigration, community organizing, the legislative process, global solidarity, structural change for justice, and more.

Panel Discussion: A panel of representatives from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Catholic Relief Services, Texas Catholic Conference and Catholic Charities of Central Texas will discuss what their organizations are doing to bring about the harvest of justice, how they are supporting the local parishes, and what they feel is the role of the parish in helping them.

Participants will also have the opportunity to visit with representatives from various organizations that are actively working to bring about social justice. The day will conclude with Mass at 5 PM.

Registration fee including lunch is $20.
