Congratulations to our own Golden Jubilarian
Sr. M. Adelaide (Cannon), C.S.C.

Sister Adelaide was honored at the 11:15am Mass here at St. Ignatius Martyr on Sunday, August 17, 2014. She renewed her vows in the presence of the congregation and was accompanied at Mass by her fellow Sisters of the Holy Cross and a large group of Associates from the Central Texas area.

Immediately following the Mass, a reception was held in her honor, followed by the quarterly gathering of the Central Texas Associates Community. Those in attendance were treated to a spirited recollection of her vocation story, as could only be told by Sister Adelaide herself!

On July 20, 2014, a group of Associates from Austin traveled to South Bend, IN, St. Mary's campus, to attend the 2014 JUBILEE CELEBRATION honoring Sr. M. Adelaide Cannon and many other Sisters of the Holy Cross.

The whole weekend was filled with joy and hope, and the grounds were alive with many extra visitors to the campus. This included the Holy Cross Sisters, many of whom who came from areas around the U.S., Mexico, Bangladesh, etc., as well as the family and friends of Diamond, Golden and Silver Jubilarians.

On Sunday, May 19, 2013, I was presented with the Spirit of Holy Cross Award; a recognition bestowed upon me and other lay collaborators by the Congregation of Holy Cross for "faithfully serving the Province in the United States and abroad."

I can honestly say that I never even knew that the award existed, much less consider that I could one day be a recipient of it. Still, I am very grateful to Fr. Bill Wack and those who supported my nomination, and I am humbled and honored to have received this award of a lifetime.

The things that I do and the ways that I serve, come from deep within. I attribute that to the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. That same Spirit, along with the introduction of Holy Cross Spirituality by my dear mother, are the guiding forces in my life.

With God-my Creator and Pathmaker, Jesus-my Example and Savior, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, I will continue to serve this wonderful community of St. Ignatius Martyr
(and all of humanity) for many more years to come.

Sisters of the Holy Cross Associates are called by God to live the Gospel message in a mutually supportive relationship with the Sisters of the Holy Cross and with each other.

These lay women and men share the core values of the Sisters of the Holy Cross and participate in the mission of Jesus by living these values in their daily lives. Those core values are:

Faith        Prayer      Compassion      Community

Holy Cross Associates are called to respond to the evolving needs of people around us, undertaking efforts for education; health care; women’s development; justice stands related to the poor, the imprisoned and the environment; and other ministries as global challenges continue to emerge. Each finds unique ways of responding to Jesus’ love and mission.

Mission Statement
of the
Sisters of the Holy Cross

We, Sisters of the Holy Cross
throughout the world,
are called to participate
in the prophetic mission of Jesus
to witness God’s love for all creation.

Compassion moves us
to reflect on the signs of the times,
discern needs,
and respond.
We stand in solidarity
with the poor and the powerless.

Our life together
enriches and strengthens us
to foster community wherever we are.

It was the vision of Blessed Basil Anthony Moreau, the founder of the Congregations of Holy Cross, that Priests, Brothers, Sisters AND Lay Associates go wherever in the world there is a need, giving testimony to Gospel living by their lives and ministry.

Becoming a Holy Cross Lay Associate means being a part of the larger Holy Cross family of Religious Priests, Brothers and Sisters - an international congregation that values the richness of its members’ diverse cultures while living one common mission.
