Students Making a Difference at St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic School
As a Lenten service project, twelve 3rd grade students at St. Ignatius, Martyr have raised over $700 to help support Heifer International in its mission to end world hunger and improve the environment.
The Read to Feed program encourages children to earn pledges from family, friends, and community members for the total number of books read, or amount of time spent reading. At the conclusion of the program, the St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic School readers collected money from their sponsors and donated it to Heifer. The donations will be used to help impoverished families and communities become self-reliant by providing food- and income producing animals and the training to care for them in environmentally-friendly ways.
Since 1944, Heifer International has helped over 4.5 million families become self-reliant through gifts of livestock. Every family that receives an animal passes on the gift of its offspring to another family in need.
